Health
I have written and re-written this section so many times that I’ve lost count. Why? Because I take this platform and what I say here and how I say it very seriously. I want to get it right. I want to share things that have not only changed the way I look at health, but things I believe have extended my life and enhanced the quality of that life.
True Confession: I can sometimes be an all-or-nothing girl. So, when I first dove into this health and wellness world, I couldn’t get enough. And along with that, I wanted to shout it from the mountaintops. I wanted to “enlighten” everyone I loved or anyone who would listen to all the information I was learning. ‘People need to know this stuff!’, I would tell myself. I believed we were all suffering because of a lack of information. And so, I set out on a mission to change the world.
However, even though I was coming from a place of love and truly wanting to help people, I learned (and am still reminded) that that approach doesn’t work.
Here’s why . . .
Our health is very personal. It isn’t just about the condition of our physical body – how much we weigh, what our cholesterol is, or . Or how to . I would go as far as to say that our health is a sacred place.
One of the many things my journey has taught me is that good health is a gift that must not be taken for granted. It must be protected. It must be nurtured. And in order to do that we must be intentional. But how do we do that? Where do we start? Who and what do we believe?
I now understand that our health is not just about how well our body is functioning or how we feel physically. While those things play a role, there is so much more involved in the state of our health. My goal here is to explain what that means.
And so, dear readers, let’s begin to explore this amazing subject of health. My objective is to present the most eye-opening, most shocking, most convicting, and most life-altering information I have come across to date. I’ll also share some personal experiences and observations that I hope to be helpful. In fact, the state of our health is directly linked to our emotional and spiritual wellbeing. There is no separation. I believe that this understanding – treating body, mind, and soul as one – is the key to complete healing and living life as it was meant to be lived.
With that said, keep in mind that with the advancement of technology, expanding research, and the accessibility of information, the health world is not only daunting, but it can change at the blink of eye.
I am not a doctor, so let’s start there. In fact, up until about 5 years ago now, my knowledge and understanding of health was extremely limited. If you had asked me a few years ago to define health, I would have said it was about eating the right foods and getting regular exercise. It was about taking a multi-vitamin, drinking plenty of water, and going to the doctor when I got sick. While those are all good practices, I now understand that looking at health through such a narrow lens is dangerously limited and extremely closed-minded. Friends, there is so much more we need to know and need to be doing if we want to achieve our best health and quality of life.
Disclaimer
I am not a medical professional, nor do I hold any credentials in the health or wellness field. Therefore, what I share here is not intended to be medical advice.
I dove headfirst (and quite naively) into the health and wellness world almost 5 years ago. At that time, I was a couple of years into my sixties. I considered myself in good health by most standards, and thankfully, I had no major issues (at least that I was aware of). But . . . I just didn’t feel good.
To be honest, I believed I felt and looked exactly how someone in my phase of life was supposed to feel and look. I had very low energy. Any muscle mass I might have had once-upon-a-time was long gone. And I had talked myself into believing that my muffin top should be worn as a badge of honor. After all, I had given birth to two babies, survived menopause, and had gone through an extremely difficult life situation. And let’s not forget . . . I was a grandmother for heaven’s sake! What did I expect?
And so, what about you, dear reader? How would you describe your current health condition? How do you feel? What beliefs are you holding onto regarding your own health and wellness?
No matter our individual health situations, we would probably all agree that the topic of health is daunting. It can be overwhelming, discouraging, frustrating, and downright confusing. Whether you are looking to improve your health, or just feel better, or do a complete overhaul, there is A LOT of information out there these days.
So, where do we even start? And, more importantly, who in the world do we believe?
As we move forward, I will tell you about my health journey, what I am learning (most of which I was completely clueless about), and how my life has changed. I will share how I went from just accepting the way things were “supposed” to be to becoming empowered and taking control of my health destiny.
To make for easier reading, I have created sub-sections. Simply click on a section that interests you; however, I hope you read each one, as each section is a small piece of a much bigger and telling story.
